I am wondering what u guys favor bait for channels?
lol..i just posted in the fourn above this one but i'm going to say for eating size night crawlers work best for me but most of the time i'll put chicken or something else on their with it also i have good luck out of that bait mate spray.
cut creek chub
soft craws (when i can get 'em)
soured carp chunks
bluegill-cut and live
creek chubs-cut,fresh or frozen and live
carp-cut,fresh or frozen
suckers-cut,fresh or frozen and live
I use shrimp and liver and night crawlers
I like hot dogs, they are easy, cheap, and not messy at all.
Danny King Punch Bait. If ya ain't never tried it, then yer missin' a fine way to catch ya a mess of'em. Channels in Texas just love this stuff !
ya know i went back and read some old stuff and that dk bait is talked about a whole lot..maybe i need to try some.does it work better later when it hot or just a good bait.
Nothing can catch 'em like Cattracker Dip Baits. Jo Jo's Pole Snatcher and Wicked Sticky. 10,000 last summer is proof to that. God bless.
Jason here in Texas we have used it yr round. We use all three kinds (blood, garlic, org.). Blood seems to get the bigger bite but I have more on the garlic. It won't replace shad for us but it does have a guarantee to catch ya some fish or yer money back. No other punch / dip bait out that I know of gives this.
2- chicken liver
cut and live suckers usually get us a couple of nice sizers.
Hmmmmmm, around here I seem to catch em on:
1) Hog Wild Premo
2) Cured Garlic Livers
4) Cut Shad
5) Creek Chubs
I also use Cattracker Dip Baits (Wicked Sticky), but I would like to add "Cut Shad" to that.
Take It Easy,
I like to use cut bait. Just by a cast net and all the bait is free. Usually around the boat ramps you can catch all the shad you wont. Good luck.
1. Cut shad
2. Garlic cured chicken livers
4. Nightcrawlers (sod worms if I can get them)
I like cow blood, sonny's, crawdads, and cut chubs.
1) Shrimp, still in the shell, soaked in vanilla extract
2) night crawlers
3) cut bait
I like cut bait best. Skipjack, shad, bluegill and others in that order. Shiners and creek chubs are also effective and I will use them often in the spring and ealy summer. I've never caught anything on store bought bait, unless it was nightcrawlers. Vern
Depending on if im targeting trophy channels or just eating size channels. the bait i like using for trophy channels is cut shad.
As for eating size i use a bait i make myself. but have made catches of somewhat large channels onit also.
The type bait you use depends on the area your going to be fishing. and also whats in that area im going to be fishing in how deep the water is what the temp of the water is depending on also if it's stained water clear water or muddy water.
All this can play a big roll in how well a bait will work.
Also keep note of the areas you fish whats in the areas what the temp outside is what bait you used how you used it and what you used it around.
Also keep note of how it worked and how well.
Always remember channel catfishing can be a challenge. give the time needed. in the end it most the time pays off.
Good luck and hope this is to some help.
