Sounds like it may be the result of some cross breeding. I am not sue but I believe it is a possibility.

I started catching them when I first moved to FL, I thought it was some morphidite something or ruther. Everyone said that they are very common here, it even shows pictures of them in the yearly handout book from the DNR.

You are probably on to something there. I Think it's like Bullheads, some are black while others are almost pure yellow.

They are still considered to be the same species, yet their appearance is entirely different:roll_eyes:

I have read where young cats will have spots but will out grow them. My 2 cents.

I've caught lots of channels with spots and things some are black others are yellow. The black ones seem to be a pigment thing genetically but the yellow ones when cut open have a yellow liquid come out. Don't have a clue what it is I just cut the bad part of the fish out. I've seen channel cats with tumors haha try explaining that the thing looked like it had a human chin. I've found that most of these disorders occur with fish living in large populations close together.

Is that anything like the catfish that the guy from Evansville, IN caught out of the ohio that he gave to Bass Pro Shops in Clarksville, IN. It's in the display tank there. I think it is called a Piebald Catfish. Looks like a white and black spotted cow, some call it a Cowfish. I dunno, just a thought.
