Atleast one bottom feedermade good at the Iowa Statehouse.
The Iowa Senate voted to make the channel catfish the official state fish. Sen. Amanda Regan stated "The channel catfish was here when the pioneers arrived and is still found in all 99 counties".
The channel catfish is already the state fish in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
A West Burlington man spent decades trying to persuade the Legislature to recognize the catfish. George Marzeck, a retired outdoors writer and artist, died last September at age 82.
    "This ones for George"
Sen. David Hartsuch rose to tell his colleagues that the channel catfish is "near and dear" to his heart. Sen. Dave Mulder replied it makes him nervous to hear about a senator carrying around a fish so close to his heart. That would explain "that unusual smell".

    Hats off to Iowa

It's too bad George isn't still around, to see the day that he fought so gallantly for,for so many years. I know he is rejoicing in heaven right now,and very happy that all of his time and effort wasn't in vain. God Bless you George.

    Danny,
Is the channel cat then considered a "game fish" in Iowa with decent limits on numbers and sizes?...W

    Amen to that.

For Metalman - the Channel cat is a game fish in Iowa with limits on numbers.
