Shad's probably the way I'd go, too. BUT, another one I'm kinda fond of and have fished with for a few years now, is something called a beef melt. I get mine from a local meat locker. I think it's actually the spleen, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it works well for me. So give 'er a try if you want.

My Grand Pap used Beef Melt alot back in the early 50s...caught quite a few on it and it stays on the hook better than liver. I personally like Cut Carp chunks for Channels...and Carp are fun to catch too.

We have had good luck with cut Sucker. I have not tried cut or live shad. I would like to try that. Now all I need is to find out how to get the shad.

    Mel,
Welcome aboard! It's nice to have another Michigander on the site. You'll get a wealth of info. here. Just check out the Library, if you don't find the answer, ask questions. On this site, there are No dumb questions.
Where are you located in this great water wonderland? Not to mention, where do you do most of your fishing?

    Hi Sparky
Im located about half way between Flint and Lansing, the little burg of Morrice. I am new to Catfishing just started last year with Whiskerwhacker (Steve). We have fished Lake Ovid mostly. One trip to Lake Erie at Monroe. Great trip.
