im new and there is a channel cat lake near my house i was wondering wll they eat mennows?
Sure! Channel cats will eat just about anything, but I prefer natural baits. Minnows can be used live, dead, whole, or cut. If you only have small minnows, you can put several on a hook to give a larger profile. Good luck!
i agree channels will eat anything, but i use chicken liver and also night crawlers dipped in a mixture of blood and vanilla exstract
In a word YES they do eat minnows
try chicken livers or shirmp, they are more expensive than minnows but you get more and youll catch better fish
They will work, but find out if there are any baitfish like shad in the area you will be fishing. Catfish will eat natural baits without even thinking twice, because that is what they eat for all their meals.
chicken liver, worms, or beef liver all seem to work good for me. take a selection with you incase one thing doesnt work. good luck. take some pics when you catch the big one!
oh yeah chicken livers are only 1.33$ at walmart which is pretty cheap just thought id let you know haha.
I have heard, they will eat minnows but I have never caught one on minnows, just worms and liver.
oooo yeah channels will eat any thing i have caught 1 one a straw berry!
i always first try a big ball of nightcrawlers tied with thread, then i go smelly.
I Also Agree I Catcht Them On A Variety Of Baits
Garlic Doughballs I Make At Home Or Cut Bluegill Dip In Anise
the best thing i have found to work were i fish is chicken liver and night crawlers
The best bait would be seasonal... worms or cut bait in the spring, cut bait or chicken livers in the summer, cut bait in the fall. For cut bait, use baitfish that is fresh and caught in the same water you're fishing. Fresh means just that... it must bleed when cut. After 30 minutes in the water, it's no longer fresh and should be replaced. Also Danny Kings works really well for channels.
chubs work the best for me alive or cut bait
James, they'll eat anything that has some protein in it. One good bait this time of year for channels that I didn't see anyone mention so far are grasshoppers. They are full grown right now and they are a very good channel cat bait if you can find any . Get the biggest ones you can. They are pretty easy to catch early mornings before it warms up, they are sluggish then. Once the sun warms them up you'll have to run em down.
Shrimp has become my favorite channel catfish bait.
My favorite bait for big channels is a fresh cut bluegill head. Shad and Shrimp work very good also.
I'll comfirm what he posted! I fish cut bait year round!
