In Arkansas you can not use grame fish for bait. You can use bullheads for bait.

Use a bullhead instead. The Flats love them in the early part of the year. After some discussion with fellow cat men. We suspect that the bullies are a predetor of Flat eggs and younglings.
Its all we use up in MN and legal to boot.... Up to 7 inches for now.

    thanks

Well I went out last night and caught 1 channel and then the bullheads started biting on the pieces of steak I was using. Got sick of messing with the bullheads so I reeled in. I had a few scraps sitting around from the channel I was filleting and figured it might be worth a shot. Threaded on a nice chunk trimmed off the belly and tossed it out, and started cleaning up the area of all the nice things other people feel the need to leave behind, packed up most of my gear and got ready to leave. About 5 minutes before I was going to leave that rod tip went down HARD. Ended up catching 5 more within the next few hours.
