I would try using minnows or bluegills.

Hi Tom Man this time of year is when I catch the most and largest channel catfish. The lakes I fish are Impoundments and are between 500 acres to 1500 acres and run 40 ft. deep at the deepest. I use Bluegill heads and Filets with the scales off and the skin on, also crappie filets with the skin on work good but have the best luck with bluegill heads hooked through the eyes. and I use a boat to drift for them and let the wind push your boat sideways and your bait bouncing along the bottom My best luck is in 15ft. to 25ft. of water. The catfish are starting to bulk up for winter and are really active dosen't seem to make any differance wheather it is day or night. Hope this helps. Your Friend J.D.
