Hello out there fellow North Carolinians! Can you put a price on the fun, friendship, family, and wealth of info you've found since joining the BOC? I know I can't. So I'm issuing a challenge to all non-star members....let's keep the BOC moving onward and upward by donating at least ten dollars in support of this great organization! Paul needs our help to keep the lights on, so click on the following link to read about star membership donation and the different levels which are available. Let's show Catfish Commando and the staff how much we appreciate everything they do to provide us with the GREATEST catfishin' club known to man...THE BROTHERHOOD OF CATFISHERMEN! You'll also be able to enter star member contests and perhaps win a PRIZE :cool2:!!! Come on, take Catgirl's challenge and light up the Carolina sky around here!

I donated last year and it seems the only thing you can do is look at the star member videos. Maybe they should have more incentive such as bigger pictures that you can upload or something so we can see our money working. I know it costs money to run a website but IMHO I think that the donations exceed the cost of the site operation.

I've never really gotten around to donating to have a star. But, from others I've heard you get a few more benefits than what you mentioned. I don't remember them all, since it's been a month and a half. Maybe someone with a star, could chime in here and let us know the benefits. Eitherway, I think donating to the BOC would be a good idea even if they exceed the cost for running this site. As Paul and the moderators put in a lot of work to keep everything functioning. Aswell as more time than I'd personally be willing to give up, to keep it updated and overall what the site is. You put in your two cents, so I figured I'd put in mine.

Jason, I've never even watched a star member video. I get enjoyment and info from the BOC everyday of my life, and I think that's worth at least $10 a YEAR. I wonder where else you could go and reap the same rewards for that amount of money. Can you think of anything you could do, a place you could spend the same amount of time, learn stuff that will help you with your fishing and countless other activities -for that price :smile2:? So I'll have to disagree with you buddy, the money I've donated to the BOC works for me all the time .

I donate because I know what is involved in making this place happen and function.

I know what it takes to run a website. Bandwitdth cost money, the more people you have hitting it the more you eat up. I also know what it takes to put the infrastructure in place to make a website run. At this size I would bet some legal fees have been incurred to make sure that bases are covered legally. You would be surprised at the legal exposure you face with something of this level.

Hopefully someone is making a profit. Personally, I would not do it for free. I will bet that if any profit has been realized, if it was amortized out over the life of the site, it would be an amount to far less than anyone here would work for.

If there was a fee to join the site would have less than 5% of the members it does now. Even some of us who donate would hesitate to pay to join. No one likes to pay to join anything on the internet, except porn. I guess it is kinda like church; 10% of the people provide 90% of the money.

To give you an idea. Paul's staff is totally volunteer. Its a second job to all of us without a pay check.
To my knowledge the site has been in the red every year since its conception. Meaning somebody has to open up their own wallet for it stay up.

That is dedication to the sport of catfishing the membership, and the BOC.
Most folks would have closed shop and moved on.
I have no doubt you could buy a house with what has been spent to keep this site going not even counting what is donated and sponsors.
Every donation helps defray the out of pocket costs and this year donations are on a tier system. You get different added features for different donation amounts. Beyond that, you know when you click to open up the BOC you know its going to open because of donations and sponsors.

Thanks Paul for hanging in there.

First let me say I appreciate and enjoy the BOC, but if you scroll down the main page you will see a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with catfishing, I won't list them all. This is a site devoted to catfishing, right, maybe some of that stuff could be cut out to save money. O.K. before I start getting hammered by some of you, remember this is the BOC and what do those letters stand for. Just my opinion.

Just because its th B.O.C., doesnt mean we cant talk bout NASCAR, trappin coons, crappie fishin or th price of tea. I personally love this site, and in th past 2 weeks, I have become addicted to it. Mainly due to th plethora of information. I plan on donating as soon as I can. I to know whats involved to keeping a site like this up an runnin. Bubbakat helped me fix my small boat motor, and we never even met till here. There is definately a comrodery here you can NOT put a price on IMO.

You're right and I have no problem with it, but if the site is in the red every year , maybe getting back to the basics is a good way to save money. Then again, maybe there's more people on the site that don't catfish and brings in more money than the people only interested in fishing. Anyway I don't go to a NASCAR or football site and expect to see topics on catfishing. Its all up to the owners of the site anyway. I don't know enough about the money situation to say anymore......

You can please some of the people some of the times but can not please all of the people all of the time. With that said, a HIGH quality web site cost money, sure Paul could get by with a cheaper site but the quality would be cut, I do not wont the site to go down hill. If you get any info from this site should be worth something. If you do not run this site the cost info should be left to Paul and his staff. Negativity is not a way to run this site, Paul strives to bring the best product forward. I donate and have for many years! I will continue to donate and hope all of you dedicated member continue to do so!!

    Thanks Top!

    Humm lets see for $10
2 capachinos quad grand from starbucks $10
2 value meals at a fast food place $10
    2 1/2 gal of gas $10
    1 tee bone steak
softdrink form a machine for a week $10

today $10 does not go far but a small investment in the furture and support of the BOC is a better investment than something that would fade in a days
time, just $10 a year thats just 2.7 cents a day for the information and enjoyment of being with people who enjoy the same things you do. The BOC has brought me friends and information, as well letting me share my experances with my fellow anglers. Lets face it i'm as tight as it gets, and the small donation i made to help this site out was a good investment.

I havnt donated but I will. I like this site and dont mind spending a little on it. I wish I got so much for so little in other things but BOC best deal in all my tackle box so I will donate. CMJ I don't disagree with you, I think this is elaborate site but thats probably a package deal. ie: to buy X amount of space for our pics, you get X other topics. so I'll let Paul decide, he reaching in wallet. with the hits this site gets I would think that advertising here would be a premium! I hoped that the money was for tourny, gatherings, or other stuff but still worth the money.

I'm gonna have to agree with CMJ on this one. He wasn't arguing whether or not the BOC is worthy of a donation, he was simply saying that if the argument is going to be made about the expense of keeping up the site then why not find ways to reduce the cost. If more hits means more money, and one wanted to reduce the outgoing money, then one could restrict the content to reduce the hits. This could be done in such a way as to maintain the integrity of the site, and still provide what seems to be the purpose of the site - to discuss catfishing. Like you all have said there's nothing wrong with discussing whatever you want, but the site's intended purpose (at least based on the name) is catfishing. Personally, I would like to see more reports. There are quite a few people that have loads of posts, and you never hear about them fishing. Just my opinion.

Hmmm....a lot of the forums which have been implemented over time are due to numerous member requests for certain topics. Granted, many subjects don't pertain to catfishing (although a LOT do involve other activities participated in my outdoorsmen). As Mark stated, catfishing is only a PART of our lives. The added forums other than those, IMO, are the ones that bring us closer together as a family. That's an integral part of this website, and a big reason many members return time after time. You can learn much more about who people are from this type of post than from any fishing report. I am interested in THOSE also however, and would be THRILLED if I had a day on the water to share with y'all. Sad fact is, I am unable to fish on a regular basis, and the last fishing excursion I went on didn't even yield any BAIT :confused2:.

Jeff and John, you fellows post YOUR reports here on a regular basis, Jeff is listed in the NC section of the BOC Hall of Fame, and you both have a place to banter back and forth with your friends. I find it hard to understand why you don't believe just THAT is worth a small donation and feel it is necessary to complain because this board has various other topics available. Just my opinion :smile2:.

Catgirl, thanks for bringing to my attention why we need to donate to the BOC. I have always tried to set an example for others in my field of endeavor and I was remiss for not donating to the BOC earlier. Eventho I have only been a member since December 2006, less than four months, I have gained enough knowledge from the members and other data contained within the BOC board that would have taken me several years to gain thru trial and error. Thanks again for being there and doing your part. Mac

I think you all are confusing what I said. I wasn't criticizing anyone, and I wansn't saying that I want more advertising. I was merely engaging in a hypothetical debate. If you want x or y to occur.... these are methods of making that happen. As far as posts not concerning catfishing - yes, I'd prefer to see less of them, but that's simply my opinion, not a criticism. Just as it is anyone's privelege to write what they want here (within the confines of decency and other similar rules of the BOC), it is mine read and not read what I choose. Therefore, I would prefer to see more fishing reports and techincal info, less non-fishing related topics, and will read those threads that interest me.
