Any scale someone uses to sell a product by weight is supposed to be certified by the NC department of Agriculture.
I dont know how often but my dad would. He is certified to certify scales for the Department of Agriculture.
Anyway the scale will have a North Carolina Department of Agriculture sticker on it if it is certified.

thats true but convincing someone to let you weigh a fish on there scales in another thing all together. I tried it at a major grocery once and they chased me out. But I got the fished weighed at a mom and pop store but they made me promise to "plug em" if it was a new record, by the way it wasn't even close.
