Pretty small, can't be more than 3#, but I'm still excited about it. Ended up snapping my brand new rod trying to free a snag, though; picked up a Zebco 808 reel on a 606 rod on the way home, so hopefully that will work out better. The rod I snapped was probably too long for me anyway: 9 ft medium heavy KingKat from BassPro. Plan to go out next week and catch some more!

Congratulations, peorian.
Sounds like you're well on your way to catching the "catfish bug."
There are bigger ones out there. Keep at it, and you'll hook up on one...or more.

Maybe contrary to some but that 808 is a fine reel ! When I get snagged and a fish wont pull it out I point the rod tip directly at the snag . Others wrap line around a stick and pull . Sure there are other ways too . What we do after she catches a big one or before next trip we all all the line out of reel and reel back up .Attach a good ball bearing swivel will help get twist out of line too. Just a lil what Ive learned to apply to my Besties rig .This is her PB ...on a 808 .And 30lb. Test .
