Flipped a rope lure with a dead chub hooked to it about 8" from his nose. He was sitting in the shallows like a stick. He hit it hard and I gave him some line. The fight was awesome. The river I fish is full of Gar and Carp and that's about it. It's nothing to see 4-6 Gars while wadeing across the river. He was 29 1/2" long, my longest to date. My daughter wanted the skull for a Biology project so we took it home to "clean it". When we gutted it and found a 2/0 hook with 3" of line on it in its stomach ! Won't take anymore home to much work for little meat of "low" quality.

Personally I will not clean one unless its at least 4ft long. They are a pain to clean but I do like eating them if you get them soaked out good. Nice fish by the way

nice gar they are a blast to catch. I have heard they are good to eat so I had intentions to try one day but was way to much trouble trying to clean so I still dont know how they taste.

Tried some one time when a friend cleaned and cooked one and best I remember it was pretty good. But, who knows, that was when I was still drinking.

Mike, I'm sure that one was fun to catch, thanks for the picture.

I've caught a couple at my dock. I caught this one last year, it was 42" and weighed 6 lbs. They do fight.
