I fished the Allegheny River here in Western Pa. this morning (12-1-06). Bad weather was on its way so I planned on fishing till things got too rough. I have not been able to get any Catfish to bite lately but at 10AM I set the hook into a real hawg of a Walleye measuring 29". I didn't have a scale with me but I'm guessing it weighed around 10#. Nice fish. Would like several that size for the freezer.

Was a co-worker at Caterpillar who would go to Minnesota or Wisconsin on vacation and fish for Walleyes. When he cleaned them he always cut out a quarter sized piece from the cheeks and brought them in to work to share with us guys. Good piece of meat too. He just called them walleye cheeks.

boilerman - I caught the Walleye on a large fathead minnow hooked through the tail on a plain size #4 eagle claw hook. No, I'm not sending any Allegheny River fish down to the Mon. River, LOL!

That's a fine looking walleye ! Nice and healthy looking in my book. I'd bet it went #10. Did you cook it up ? Walleyes sure are tasty. Or can you keep fish from that river ?

In our area, we don't get too many that size. There are some though and I've seen my share of them, but most are a bit smaller out here.

Several of you have asked if I released the fish. I decided to get it mounted. I have always wanted to get a large Walleye for the wall. The wife is not to happy about it but... I do 99.99% CPR on most fish I catch and in fact this will be the 1st fish I kept in 2006.
