Ron what area where you fishing? The big blues down this way have been hammering fresh cut bait and live eels. Most of the blues move down closer to the coast this time of the year and will follow the shad and herring back up the river. I usually have most of my luck fishing in the winyah bay this time of the year matter of fact I will be down there thursday to try them out.
Yeah everyone and their brother has been fishing cut bait and eel down here. So far everyone I spoke to hasn't had any luck. NOT saying the cats aren't biting the stuff. Just not any luck myself or anyone else I know with cut bait.
The cats ALWAYS bite Sonnys... I don't care if the river is 18 ft high or low, that stuff always produces. I thought twelve cats was a decent day for the winter and not biting anything else.
The river was kinda high (probably a lot higher now with the rain we had Sunday night). And the CURRENT was KICKING...
But the water level was ok. We were fishing near the 34 bridge (bennettsville) so we are up a ways from you. Our hole "at the right level" is around 20 ft. Saturday it was at 25 ft. So the river was close but still a little bit off.
Ron I fish from around hwy 378 down to georgetown mainly. It is normal fo the fish to slow down cause they have moved down river to follow the shad and herring back up. I dont use any type of stinkbait cause mainly it stinks.LOL
Ron, Wouldn't the 34 landing be considered Darlington rather than Bennettsville? You can throw a rock about ten times and hit Darlington and Bennettsville is about 20+ miles away. Just curious why you said that.
BB in Bennettsville
Because that's what Florence people have always called it. I'm guessing because you are going towards bennettsville from florence. And we consider it the bennettsville highway. I call it a cat fishing hole!
