For a long time now, I've been wanting to put together a CD with nothing but songs that refference catfishing. Songs like Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Jr., and Black Water by The Doobie Brothers. I'm not so good at remembering song lyrics, so if y'all could help me out, that would be oh so cooool!! If you can think of any song that says "catfish" in it, please post it here. Thanks in advance.

Catfish John by Johnny Russell is a pretty good song.

O.K. since nobody is going to help me out, I searched up a few on my own. Here they are for any that might be inerrested. There's a bunch of hip-hop with catfish in them, but I don't listen to hip-hop and especially while fishing which is what this compilation will be used for. I know there's a bunch more, and I will continue to search.

    Jethro Tull-Catfish Rising
    Jethro Tull-Night in the Widerness
    Brad Paisley-Mud on the Tires
    Bruce Sprinstein-The Rising
    Kenny Chesney-Outa Here
    Kid Rock-Country Boy Can Survive
Brooks & Dunn-Good Day to Me
    Elton John-Dixie Lilly
    Pink Floyd-Seabirds
    Jimi hendrix-Catfish Blues

I'd never have been a help. I'm not real good with song names. The only thing that started going through my head was 'catfish are a jumping'; couldn't get anything else to go with it.

The one msbren06 is thinking of may be (one rendition by Janis Joplin) "Summertime" -
"Summertime, and the livin' is easy
    Catfish are jumpin'
    And the cotton is high..."

Try Taj Mahal "Fishin' Blues" -
"...went on down to my favorite fishing hole
Baby grabbed me a pole and line
    Throwed my pole on in
    Caught a 9 pound Catfish
Now you know I brought him home for supper time
    .."

It's actually "Fish are jumpin...", from the opera, Porgy and Bess, written by George Gershwin.

    Still a great song, though.

Kat, can you burn me a copy?

Fishing Blues by Taj Mahal is definitely my favorite... I burned a fishin' CD with that and quite a few others:
The Fishin' Hole -- Andy Griffith show theme (yes, there are lyrics)
    Fish On -- Primus
    Catfish Blues -- Muddy Waters
Gone Fishin' ( Fishin in the Dark)-- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Beer, Bait and Ammo -- Neal McCoy
Ice Fish Baby -- Da Yoopers
Fishin wit Fred -- Da Yoopers
40 lb Crappie -- Da Yoopers
    Spring Fishin -- Da Yoopers
Gone Fishin -- Louie Armstrong and Bing Crosby
I'm Going to miss her -- Brad Paisley

and some others that escape me now. I played the heck out of it on road trips headed fishing. Lost it when I totaled my truck last summer. Will have to burn another before I head out this year. Hopefully soon!!

Catfish John has been recorded by several artist. Vince Gill and Allison Krauss have a real nice bluegrass version. Jerry Garica has recorded it solo and along with David Grisman. What a great song.

Muddy Waters, RL Burnside, Buddy Guy, BB King, and Jimi Hendrix have all released verisons of catfish blues. If I were a musician I would sing catfish blues too!! LOL

Thanks for the ideas guys. All I need to do now is aquire most of these tunes and burn em. I also have to do a trucker song CD because my fishin' buddy is a trucker, and I'm always tellin' him "hammer down", or "10/4 good buddy" every time he tells me to do something. It really gets him going. It would be great to be out on the river, and pop in a CD with Teddy Bear, and Convoy etc. on it.
