Later this week I'm going to Fries VA to visit my parents. While I'm there I want to try the New River for Catfishing but I'm from NC and don't know anything about it! Any help would be appreciated. I know there's a dam right out of Fries, by Scenic Rd. Do I want to fish below or above that dam? Also what kind of bait works well? Shad, Bluegill, Liver? I'll be fishing from the bank so if it's shad, is there any chance on catching any with a castnet so close to shore?

Talked with some friends from that area and tehy suggested trying to find some deeper pools in the area, at least that is where thay have found the cats in the past.
