My favorite day is coming up next month. Every year The Millville airport here in New Jersey has a great airshow. The airport is located right next to the river, but is not visable from it. Going to the airshaow is rough because it gets jam packed with cars and you can hardly get out of there when it's over.
So I go out on the river and fish while watching (from the best seat in the place). Fighter jets and other planes coming from all directions right along the river. It is like having your own personal airshow while catfishing!

Sounds like the best seats in the house are on your boat!

You're not lying copycat! I'm usually stuck with Traffic Control Points on the Air Force Base Airshows, but two years ago I got posted on a boat patrol on the Alabama River down at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery AL. It was the best to just sit on the boat, and finally get to watch the show. Seen the planes a thousand times on the ground, but it's truly a sight to see them all in flight. Later

Sounds like you do have the best seats in the house! No crowds either. Does the vibrations from the jets bother the fish?

Years ago when Seymour Johnson AFB was home to a B-52 bomber wing I had a squadroon of 52's with a fighter escort take off while I was canoeing by.
I thought the world had ended and when the horrendous noise abated I realized everything was fine for a brief period until the exhaust smoke descended on me.

I live under military controlled airspace. Most of what goes on here is passing transports and low level dog fighting by the F-15's out of Seymour.
When they start locking on to each other the lead plane starts shooting the flares out the back to break contact.
It hasnt affected my pond fishing while its going on but what a show.
I know some of the stuff they do low level probally isnt too kosher back at headquarters but I get a free airshow 4 or 5 days a week.
2 years ago we had an F-15 go down right here at the house.
I didnt see it go in but I heard it.
We are so accustomed to their sounds and the noise levels we dont pay them much mind but on that day you knew something wasnt right by the sound of the engine on that low level fly by.

It crashed and proceeded to burn. The local fire department was ordered not to put it out just to control the burn . The entire available fighter wing was put up over us that day with refuelers.
Both pilots ejected and landed in trees and were ok.
The military moved in porta johns, blocked off roads , and took a month to reclaim their plane in the middle of the night.

Been there Mark J! Had to secure a crashed F-16 for 38 hours before everything was taken back to the base.

You also are one of the few people that live by and Air Force Base and not complain about the sound of freedom. I have a lot of respect for that. Thanks

Shane, I love it. Nothing like them streaking over low level out of nowhere and watch one roll to the right and one to the left.
When I was a kid I used to hear the sonic booms and see the smoke rings in the sky all the time.

Living right inbetween Seymour, Pope, And Bragg we get a little of it all. Not much helicopter traffic but we get enough traffic around here to know when something is up somewhere in the world.
From Bragg we get the booms in the night from the big guns.
We get the occasional C-5 turning to line up for Seymour. It's welcome shade in the summer. Plenty of the KC135? tankers.
Not much C-130 traffic the last few years. They are all deployed except the 10 flyable ones left on Pope.
I love watching the C-17 also . That thing looks like its about to fall out of the sky on a steep banking turn.
I cant imagine anyone complaining about the noise of freedom.
I get chills just watching them sometimes and when I get the chance on a low and slow I throw a friendly wave and get a wing wave in return.
They can turn it on all they want to over my house.

Thanks for what you do too Shane.

Nothing better than a Shaw AFB F-16 or Charleston AFB C-17 at 200 ft over the diversion canal bridge at Santee Cooper. Even get the occasional F-18 out of Beaufort MCAS. A great fishing experience.
