Ok guys..this is for the non believers. The biggest cats are 4 - 6 lbs.

I think there was a total of 16 fish.

i think its the shinyness of the foil. ive caught channels on bare hooks before when settin out lines. i bet he is fishin in clear water with a current.

That's awesome - I'm gonna have to try that next time I go. What kind of conditions were you fishing in?

Visibily was about 2 feet in the lake on that trip. Fished at night.

There was no current but the wave action moves the floats which makes the bait dance in teh water.

I have never had the chance to fish it on a full moon night but I sure want to.

An old commercial fisherman taught me the technique. He told me the last year he fished, he caught 10,621 lbs from Okeechobee in south Florida.

They must work like a spoon, the fish mistaken them for a small shad.

When I saw this thread I thought it was going to have something to do with cooking catfish on a grill. LOL

I don't think it would work for me in the murky water I fish, but if it works for you I see no reason to stop doing it.

Here is what I think... the aluminum foil is a good electricity conductor... perhaps some of the catfishes sensory organs pick up on it and they think its something alive... who the heck knows.

I must admit, I'm gonna have to try this myself on some trot lines and see what happens.

For those of you who have never seen one, the boxes in the last picture are called 'jump boxes', and provide a very speedy method of putting out a trotline.

I have caught plenty of channels on empty, silver hooks. I used to wade the lakes/rivers and set my lines. Ist trip was to stretch the main line, second trip hung the hooks and third trip was the bait trip. Many times I had fish on the line before I could put the bait on the hooks. To this day, I use the bright, shinny silver/stainless steel hooks on trotlines and jub lines. Anything to help the situation.

Wow, that's one of the craziest methods for catfishing I've ever seen. I wonder if spraying some of that artificial scent stuff on it would help increase its success rate.
