catfish bait

    Besides bluegill are there any other types of bait to use that will effectively catch catfish?:tounge_out:

    Other fish I have caught flatheads with:
    bluegills, of course
    crappie
    rockbass
    white perch
    eels
    LMB
    SMB
    suckers
    chubbs
    shiners
    fallfish
    green sunfish
    pumpkinseeds

    i agree .. anything you can catch legaly in PA makes good cat bait i would say :wink:

    what is a fallfish? i never heard of that before.

    They look like a creek chub with bumps on the top of their head

    not all have bumbs actualy most of the ones i catch dont. but they do look like creek chubs, and have big silver scales. ill post a pic in a min

    if your fishing for channels, my fav baits would include any of the fish mentioned before but cut up, especially trout heads with guts still there for trophy cats, but hillgremites, liver and stink baits for small eatter sized cats with a big one thrown in on every now and then.

    Those fallfish almost look like a real small tarpon. I've caught them as big as 18".

    I forgot bullheads.

    They work too.

    My goal is to catch a flatheads on a channel cat.

    Funny you should say that Tan... i did exactly that last year... cought a 20 inch flat using a 8 inch channle i was soooo disapointed that it was a small flatty LOL.

    thanks to everyone for the info. i have seen them before but not too often. didn't know what they were and never caught one either.
