That move wouldnt suprise me one bit since they have imposed minimum size restrictions on them for this year.

I think we are about to see alot of our tax money going into the streams and lakes of WV.All the talk in the legislature is about increasing tourism and how hunting/fishing and other outdoor activities are our biggest resource.

Just like years ago when state saw what bass fish can do for there state. We now see states looking to the catfish as the next bass. With all the tournaments popping up they see $ signs for their state.

What would change if they were named game fish? Is it a good thing? Would that mean you could not use jugs and trotlines vs them?

    (By Delegates Talbott, Argento, Fragale,
    Caputo, Iaquinta and Manchin)
[Introduced February 6, 2007; referred to the
Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources.]

A BILL to amend and reenact §20-1-2 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to including blue catfish in the definition of game fish.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That §20-1-2 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:

    And..

Senate Bill 389 would define blue catfish
as a game fish. The blue catfish is a
species native to the Kanawha and Ohio
rivers that the Department of Natural
Resources is studying. By defining it as
game, the bill would allow the state to
regulate the fishing of this species.
