I didn’t have a mat with me so wanted him off the gravel as quick as I could. No weight or measuring but a little over 10 pounds I would think. Had a second Carp but he did an automatic release right at the bank.

With the black eyes it looks like a Buffalo to me, nice catch Tom. What did you get it on? I still haven't caught one yet.

And Stacee you have been putting in some good work, keep it up. Hopefully you will pull out a flatty soon.

I've been so busy and my timing has been off that I still haven't made it to the river this year. Heck I just now got my new fishing license and I usually get it before my other expires.

Hi Jon, don't want to side track Stacee's thread but it was caught on my carp rig using artificial floating corn kernels and my method mix of panko, instant oats, strawberry jello, drained whole kernel corn and drained white hominy. Packs great after it sets for an hour and is not sticky.

Stacee you should be getting a flathead soon. They have to be waking up.

I made it to the river before the sun come up today.
No luck in the dark but got lucky the rain was a few sprinkles here and there.
At my 3rd spot I started getting the bait stealers bite after awhile it slows down and my new rig goes down. I reel in the 4 pound channel right to the bank.
Problem was I was at the top of a 6 foot bank so I try to lift him up the bank.
End up being a quick release.

Bites quit and I move on to the 4th spot. The bait stealers start hitting two rods close to the bank.
My new rig is also close to the bank and getting nothing.
I decide to use my new rig to get my big chub head out in the middle of the river.
Laying both my other rods on the ground so I can make a side arm cast easily to the center of the river.
The Piscifun 50 can cast felt the burn on my thumb.
The 4 oz weight wasn't enough to hold bottom which I knew it would slowly move on down river until it found a snag or a fish.

Couldn't get my hand around this 6.5 pound channel.
Tried a few more cast but no more bites so off to the 5th spot to fish.

Cast a few big chub heads close to some structure not to far off the bank.
Seems like a small fish bite and then wham the Whisker Whip goes down hard.
I feel something good on for a second or two and then I'm hung up the fish wasn't on anymore.
I'm thinking it was a gar as hard as the rod went down and didn't hook up.
Tried for another 15 minutes but no bites so I made my way home.

I made it to the river before dark so I could use the rest of my bait.
Never figured I would get anything before dark so I threw out some nightcrawlers to pass some time.
The rock bass were biting really good.
Cast out another nightcrawler and looked over at the other two rods the Rippin Lips rod was just coming back up and no more bending figured it didn't get hooked up. I'm reeling in the nightcrawler and look at the two rods again. I notice the orange line going under the other poles green line.
I reel down on it and this 7 pounder ate the 3 inch center piece of chub.

Still casting out nightcrawlers I catch lots of rock bass and then I feel something familiar on the hook.

I end up catching a nice hand sized bluegill and one small rock bass that I used for live bait and that was it for the night.

I went this evening to the river. The water is low for spring.
Waiting on something to bite I threw out some nightcrawlers and caught about a couple dozen
rock bass, one bluegill and one small channel cat.
Biggest rock bass I've caught this year.

It get's close to dark I use a live bluegill for bait. He was a lively but no bites.
A few slow pulls on one rod with one good takedown that didn't get hooked up.
The last rod had no action to where I was throwing it so I cast it in shallow water and added a peg float close to the cut chub. Then I catch this guy as I'm getting ready to leave. He's tail flapping the whole time I was holding him.

One more cast and I got another bite but no hookups so I headed to the house.

I walked across the dam today and almost made it all the way across but decided to take a dip.
Luckily my live bait and rods didn't get wet.
Bait of the day was live and cut chubs and shiners.
I also used Berkley Minnows and any jighead and grub I had.
It was a day of Smallies.
Caught 3 but have a picture of 2 nicer ones.
I had cut bait on two rods but no bites.
4-25-21a.jpg 4-25-21b.jpg

Then I thought I would try the other side of the river with heavy current.

4-25-21c.jpg

It was definitely a good idea!

I had a little bite on the cut bait but it was probably a smallie.
Moved to a current seam I was running low on bait
so I threw out a Berkley minnow while waiting on a bite from 1 live and 1 cut bait rod.
Then I got a bite on the live.
4-25-21e.jpg

Ended up catching a dozen rock bass and a couple crappies with the Berkley minnow.
I kept a little rock bass for live bait and cut a few rock bass and crappies.

Then I head back to the other side of the river in the shallow water before dark.
I cast out a little jighead tube bait waiting on a whisker fish to bite.
The first smallie jumps up out of the water and spits the bait but I nab the 2nd one with the ultralight right before dark.
4-25-21f.jpg

I also catch five rock bass and a nice size crappie.
The crappie gets cut up for bait.
It gets dark I put the ultralight down and put the big crappie head on the 3rd rod.
Waiting on the bite I notice the full moon shining between the tree's.
An hour later still waiting I reel in each bait in and place one close to the bank and one just a little farther and the 3rd a little farther out.
Ready to call it a night I planned to stay for another 30 minutes.
10 minutes later Mr. Whiskers takes the cut shiner.
It only took me 8 hours to get a fish with whiskers.

Another 10 minutes goes by and the medium light Rippin Lips rod goes down hard and the drag is a peeling off. I hear a fish splashing on down river I'm thinking it's a gar as fast as it took off.
I gain some ground and he is hung up on something so I pull back the bait runner lever and after a few moments zzzz zzzzz zzz he is out and I'm dragging him over top of logs and snags.
I could feel the line scraping thank goodness the line is Offshore Angler Tightline.
Still fighting I had a hard time getting him in the net.

I had to straighten the hook to get it out.
Weighing in at 10lbs 10 ounces and measuring 31 inches long.
Caught on the center section of crappie.
Packed it up and left after this because it was 10:30.

Man that's determination! Way to go Stacy. All those other fish were sure to break the monotony waiting on Mr. Whiskers. Glad it paid off for you.

Those smallies are hard fighters and are pure fun to catch.
I'm putting my time in it's all I know how to do when the catfish are not biting.
It's fun being on the river in spring before the weeds and bugs get bad.
I will have to start landscaping some trails this week.

I went out this morning to the river with a couple pieces of crappie.
Got a few rods loaded up good and didn't hook up. Oh No the gar bite.

Caught 2 more nice crappie waiting on the bite.
More bait to use the next time.

I got my workout today Swinging the machete around clearing the path a little more.

Rain is on the way.
The river is at .5 feet suppose to go up to 2.1 feet by Friday.

It was another crappie morning.

324227

Caught 3 crappies on the Berkley minnow and released them.
Kept my other 2 crappies alive from the other day and cut them up fresh for this morning.

Got a few rod bends that weren't hooking up so I decided to turn on the bait runner on the medium light rod.
Moments later I hear zzz zzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I'm guessing he was on.
Then the drag starts peeling out it was a fish in the shallow current with a medium light rod.
I tighten the drag before I lose him down river. Dragging him across the top of the water and trying to keep him out of a downed tree hanging in the water. It was enough to get my blood a pumping.
I get him to the bank. It was one of those fat headed grayish blue channel cats. I reach down to pick him up by hand and he didn't want no part in that he rolled when he seen my hand and
it was a quick release.
Thank you for the fight fathead I'll get a picture of you next time.

The bigger head and huge wrinkly mouth makes me think there older channel cats.
It always seems to me that they fight harder than the greenish channel cats of the same size.
This picture is from my first post of a 13.8 pound channel cat.

Checked out the big Ohio River at Clifty Falls yesterday.

P1000610.JPG IMG_8906.JPG IMG_8910.JPG P1000622.JPG

Then around 5 p.m. I fished for bait yesterday at the river. The water actually got up to 2.56 feet.
There is some depth, current and debris in the nice brown East Fork White River again.
This little fellow couldn't resist a nightcrawler.

My daughter caught me some bait at the creek this morning.
Thought I would use some of the bait this evening.
Only a turtle killing and chewing up my live chub at the first spot.
Then I moved to a second spot. A couple hours later I finally get a bite on the flapper cut shiner.
It looked exactly like another turtle bite.

324295

I had one more bite on the flapper cut shiner that acted exactly like a turtle bite but it let it go.

Not much time to fish this morning
I had to catch my bait at the Kroger today.
Lots of thieves stealing my chicken liver and chicken breast.
Not ready to give up I tried shallower water with one rod.
Then I finally got this feisty one 3 foot from the bank on chicken breast to get the skunk out.

He fought me more on the bank than in the water.
