I work with an avid trapper who told me today when he was targeting cats that he fastened the lid of a pickle jar to the pan. Died or dipped the trap as usual. Claims that he didn't make a real attempt to cover the trap either. Said trigger pull was set at 3.5 Lb. and when the trap was set, he filled the lid with sand. According to this man, a cat will step in this fresh sand every time he comes by it. Haven't tryed this yet, but i've seen some of this guys results and he knows how to trap.

Quite a few cat trapper use this setup. Also attaching a piece of shingle to the pan is another way some folks center the cats foot. No cover is used on the rest of the trap. I use the shingle method myself on # 3 longsprings. Works like a charm. If I get the cat to the set, I can usually catch him. Results in a good pad catch also.
