What's everyone using for bait? We used chicken breast...it netted us a 26 pounder in Lake Norman...nothing in Catawba...

    I'm looking for advice...

Lake Hickory just has bullheads, white cats, and channel cats. There are some nice channel catfish in hickory but dont plan on catching any huge fish. Best bait to use is bluegill for channels. If you want to catch a lot of small fish use fresh shad. You wont be able to keep the shad in the water. I use cut bluegills to weed out the small white cats and bullheads. Right now its tough fishing but in a few more weeks should be biting good. There's so many small fish it makes it hard to fish. Most good nights we go out and fish we'll catch 50 fish and biggest will be around 6-10lb and biggest was a 13.7lb channel catfish so far this year caught on bluegill.

Bryan8552, thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely try it. I wonder if raw steak gone bad would yield any results...
