Does anyone have Catalpa tree seeds? I want to start some trees from seed. If you have any, please PM me. Not looking for a gift, I'll be glad to buy them from you. Thanks

I found some cheap trees on e-bay last year. Planted 4 tree's and all 4 were mowed down by my boy when he mowed the yard. Going to try again next year.

I can't reply to PM's yet, not enough posts. Gotta get 10 posts. I don't think I can insert my email address either. No seeds yet, but I have been studying them on the net.

    Mitchell,
What part of VA are you in? I am in SW VA and we have Catalpa trees all around our place. I don't know anything about getting the seeds but I would be willing to try to get you some. What would I need to do to get the seeds?
    Welcome to the BOC.

I'm in Dinwiddie County, about 25 miles south of Richmond.
10 Miles from the Appopmattox River, and a little farther to the James. I usually put in at Appomattox Small Boat Harbor and fish around there.Thats not far from where the Appomattox and James come together near Hopewell. I want to fish the James for bigger fish. I recently got a 15 ' jon boat to replace my 12'. I think that would be ok at the Ben Harrison Bridge

The seed pods look like hanging cigars, and have dropped by now. I know a guy who has some trees, but he didn't save seeds this year, and I want to start them indoors this winter. Thanks for all the replies, I'll have 10 posts soon I hope

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is best to collect the seed pods (Cigars) as soon as they fall, and allow them to dry completely? After dry, open them and remove the seeds. This is the way I do other seed pods.

Kampfire, catalpa trees will often have little trees growing around them that the owners really don't want. Getting some foot high seedlings might save you a year's growing over starting from seeds. Wrap a bit of real damp rag around the roots, put the root end into a plastic bag & gently tie the top, then put it all into an overnight mailing envelope.

Had the same thing happen to one tree. It came back though and is doing fine. Bought the trees off of ebay also.

Just remembered Iowa DNR has an embargo on any kind of firewood. Coming into IOWA.
    Some sort of disease.
Better find out if its legal to ship trees or seeds to your state.
    best of luck

I asked, and was advised there was no restriction coming into Virginia on seeds or trees
