Havn't tried it, but it sounds like it might work. Pretty much anything nasty will work for cats

Ok Guys Go To Your Lake Or River Get Some Cat Tails The White Tops. Mixed Them In The Can Food The Cat Tails Will Help Hold It Together In A Ball. Dog Food Will Work To I Have Even Used Chicken Liver, Pig Blood, Deer Blood, Chicken Blood If You Kill Your Own Meat The Blood Is Free . So Now How Many Of You Will Go Try This Out. It Will Work Better Then Any Bait Waly World Has And For Half The Price.

ya know i was thinking, if those cattails work, how well would it work to soak cotton balls in blood, liver, catfood, or whatever kind of mushy liquidy bait you can come up with. i think it'd stay on the hook better than cattails and youd probably get to use it a few times before you have to put a new one on. what do ya think?
