What's your preferred style of reel for cat fishing.

I myself use nothing but bait casters for cat fishing. I feel that the bait caster provides better line control and typically have a better drag system versus the others. I personally have better luck placing baits where I want with a casting reel versus the others.

Now if I'm pan fishing with an med/light or ultra light setup, I prefer the open face spinning reels as its easier for me to cast super light baits, lures, & jigs.

I mainly use bait casters for catfishing. But I will break out my spinning outfits from time to time. An example, I will use ultra lite spinning 4-6 mono for channels in a pond. Its alot of fun for me.

I use both bait casting and spinning . A reel is a tool, I use different reels to fit where and how I am fishing. It is the same with rods, I use rods from 6 ft to 15 ft

More specifically, I prefer the Abu Garcia 7000's, although I use 6500's sometimes, also. Doug

I have to go along with the majority here. I use baitcasters only due never used the spinning reels. Ive fished with guys who do and they seem to work fine. Im most comfortable with the baitcaster. rspd507

    What they said!!!!
You have to be Versatile, a single type of reel cannot fill all the needs/methods that one could use.
