I've tried a couple different ways with some success, but I read this (Dreadnaughts) in the article section a short while back ... it is the most consistent method I have found. Which is important to me since I normally throw from the front deck of the boat (wind, waves, etc.)

PS - I was paid nothing for this endorment. :cool2: :smile2:

    Thats a great explanation !!!!
Thats exactly the way i throw one , but i had to figure it out myself by trial and error. Its the only way i could get it to open .
I think that will only work on a 6 ftr and under though(for me anyway), i tried it with a 8 ft net and kept hitting myself in the head with the weights(somehow) Ouch!!!! so i just use a 6 ft'r, thats a plenty any way.
The weird thing for me though is that im right handed, but i throw the net as if i were left handed, i cant do it right handed,( and i have tried)

The larger nets... I just fold them over and make sure that there is at least 3' hanging below my throwing hand. When I throw a 10 radius net(opens to 20') I merely double the net up in my throwing hand and follow the rest of the proceedure.

I used to use a cast net to gather bait when I lived in Yuma, Az. and with a little practice it gets easy.
I want to caution everyone that if you are visiting California do not bring your cast net. In Ca. possession of a cast net is considered proof of use, and use of a casting net is illegal in CA. Big fines.

Can you do an article on where to throw the net now. After several years of tring I finally can throw it but I'm tired of coming up empty. I fish in tidal rivers here in Virginia if that makes a difference. They are brackish and freshwater. No mullet just shad, perch, bream, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated and my throwing arm thanks you, too.

Oran, I have been thinking about this question for a while and trying to come up with the words to tell you what you want to know. While searching the board I found this thread with lots of good input on this subject.
Here is a link to it: http://www.catfish1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35814
