I recently stumbled across this website researching how to improve my flathead fishing. I have always tried to catch carp by throwing a handful of corn into shallow water to chum and fishing with doughballs but all I catch is carp that are too big which forces me to just use bluegills. Whats the secret to catching baby carp. (AWSOME WEBSITE)

Regarding the Large Carp,,, You can always cut their heads off and use that,, Provided you have the adequate type tackle Gilbert mentioned,, also, carp filets, scaled,, do a nice job..


I don't have any luck catching carp on purpose either!!

I will keep that in mind. I figured 1 to 2lbs maximum. I also hear about guys cutting them up and fishing that way but I have always thought they needed to be alive

Cut carp can work, you can always hedge your bets by using a carp section on one hook, and then using a gill on the other.

I would throw out a 3lb carp in a sec just make sure to cut his tail and have the right tackel cause you know whatever takes it is going to be good size

i second that! if u wanna catch more carp, then u need to get a throw net and chum with corn in the same fashion or just look for soft shore line that looks carpie and throw ur net early till late evning. throw till ur arm falls off. and remember that u pay for what u get for. the better/heavy the net the more fish u will get. 3# carp are a big flats wet dream OOOOOOOO! LOL

Me and the amigos have come to the conclusion that 10 to 15 gills of size is enough then all efforts should be made in the pesuit of carp of any size . Like I stated before carp ooooze that come get me to the flatties. just my thought

Yep Big J or Kahle up through the upper lip, not too far back, and a stinger hook near the tail!!
