With the water earming up the carp are in the shallows spawning now.I found them in the weeds in Sata Fe lake in Chanute and they were thrashing and splashing with their backs out of water.I had some Magic bait doughballs with me so I tossed some with no sinker right in middle of them.I was catching eater channels everytime.I've done this many times in many places, spawning carp means channels feeding on eggs.If the wind dies a little I'll go back there are big channels in there.:smile2:

The blues will also be in there feeding on the carp eggs, this also works when you see the gar spawning in the rocks. We won a boat last year fishing the weed beds the carp were feeding in. Also won another tournament drift fishing below the spawning gar one time. This is a great tactic for catching lots of fish and sometimes some size as well.

Yeah, the carp are spawning on the Little Arkansas in Wichita too. It took me a while to figure out what they were doing until I saw the eggs. I tossed out some Gulp worms to try and entice one to bite, but no luck. The Gulp worms were the only thing I had other than shad. I did catch one channel, but not from under the log jam the carp were spawning in.

    Ogden, Kansas,
We were seeing some dark shapes in the water at the mini at Milford on
Saturday. There was a 45 mph steady wind in our face with some gusts
that built up some whitecapped breakers on the north shore of School
Creek. The dark shapes most folks agreed were either carp or buffalo
and they were moving in tight circles just below the surface outside of
the mudline that formed twenty feet off the beach. We could feel the
spray on our faces. Keith brought out the 12ft surf rods and stuck a
14lb blue by driving a 4oz. no roll slid close to the 5/0 Owner Kahle hook
baited with a shad head about 20ft beyond the mudline into clear water
which ended up on the bottom just outside of the mudline. Less than
5 min later me and Ray were doing the Hey!, hey, hey, hey! chant to
Keith who was adjusting the other rig for tightness. Keith whipped the
fish in short order and it was nice to watch him work! Nice release
later marred by the waves pounding the blue back onto shore once
until Keith walked him back out a little deeper, then Mr. Blue shook
his head and shot back out into the depths. Good times!

The lake came up about 2 ft and stopped all the action I'll check again in a few days.
