Finally, even though the weather could have been better, got down to the Cape Fear to try my hand at the blues again. Trailer stayed straight this time, cold and rainy, but we managed to get eight blues. Nothing to brag about, but better than nothing. We started out trying to cast net some bait and ended up after two hours with just two gizzard shad, so we headed to the river with two shad and some shrimp(thanks Wes!), so see if maybe we could get some eels. Well we get out on the river in that wonderful rain we had Saturday, and we set out on a bait journey and get one decent eel. Lots of hits, just one caught though...so we move up to our first spot, put out some cut bait and start getting hit instantly...but can't hook. But then something nails the bait rod and we bring up a 4lbs. blue. So we switch all the rods to shrimp, and catch two more blues in the 2lbs. range. Well, as it turns out...that was the only thing that would catch fish...shrimp. Had a few hits on the shad and eel, but nothing big enough to hook on that kind of bait. Big fish of the day was only 5lbs, but it was still a lot of fun!
