Cape Fear 10-27-07

    Found a bag of frozen American shad in the freezer last night and set them out to thaw. Fished this morning from 7-9am. Caught 2 and missed a big one. Biggest went 34lb blue, and a 7lb blue. River is up about 3ft, and rising.

    Those fish look pretty dry, did you keep them or cpr. Looks like you had a good time. Never had much luck with frozen bait.

    Frozen bait works pretty well, I just don't like frozen shad. I take whatever sunfish I have left at the end of a trip and then freeze them when I get home. I generally use them in about a week. If you freeze them when they're really fresh/alive they still have slime on them when they thaw and still bleed when you cut them. Actually, two of the biggest flatheads I've hooked this year(they both got the best of me) came on cut frozen bluegill.

    caught those in Erwin. water was up ab out 3ft from normal and on the rise
