I've been out fishing half a dozen times in the last couple weeks but only caught one cat. I've used almost everything possible to try and land some, worms, livers, shad, gills, dip bait but still cant seem catch any. Tried some small rivers but mostly went to ponds and here in southern iowa we have gotten a lot of rain lately so it makes it hard to find the pools in the smaller rivers. Is anyone else having this problem? If i didnt know anybetter i'd say every channel around froze out lol. Any advice would be appreciated.

especially in smaller rivers and such during times of high water the fish won't be in the river, they will however be feeding heavily in the flooded areas where water normally does not reach and as it does it opens up a whole area of fresh food for the cats, I have caught them in a alfalfa feild in a flooded feild next to a river in one foot of water during the day, couldn't catch a thing in the river proper but right along the edges and in the flood zones they were working hard , also if they are starting the spawn you will need to be fishing shallow in 1 to 5 foot of water, try hanging a minnow under a bobber in rocky shallow areas and other spawning ground areas, in the river try nightcrawlers, shrimp, etc. right up on the bank where it is normally dry, often right among some grass patches they seem to like that.
