The following is from a 1904 Arm & Hammer Baking Soda booklet:

    Eleven pairs were hanging high,
    Eleven kings came riding by,
    Each king took a pear,
And still there were eleven there.

    How can that be?

This one is a little tougher

A farmer went to the store to buy something for his farm house. When he tracked down an emplowee to help him, the clerk told him 1 would cost 25 cents, 12 would cost 50 cents, and 122 would cost 75 cents.

    What was the farmer buying?
