Ever been hungry camping, and about the only thing you can catch is perch? Found a way to cook them with out pots or pans. Simple.

    Gut the perch.

Pack mud around perch, throw in fire, coals.

Wait till mud is hard, break baked mud open (usually you get skin on one side, meat and skin on the other). The mud acts as an oven, and the perch is cooked completely when the mud is dried.

Yes this works very well and if ya got some seasoning you can put it in the cavity after ya take out the insides. Works pretty good and you can do it with about any kind of fish with scales and you don't even have to scale them.

Another way to do it tho is to take a forked stick and drive it in the ground near the fire. Take another stick and shove it down the fishes mouth then place the fish packed in the mud over the fire balancing it in the forked stick.
