I bought a California Tackle baitrunner (BR 60) from Ebay. The bail spring failed during my second trip on the lake. It has a lifetime warranty so I called the manufacturer. I actually talked with the owner of the Tackle Shop that apparently imports them from China--or so I assume since the box says made in China. He was very pleasant and helpful, and said to mail the reel with $6.00 and he would send me a new one. I only paid $25 so I was just wanting a repair/ repaclement spring. Incredibly, there are no repair parts. If a reel fails he puts it in a big pile--his words- and ships out a new one. He told me that many of the reels had bail spring failures. I can still fish with the reel the old fashion way--manual bail and I don't want to waste any more money on a very cheap and poorly crafted reel so I plan to do nothing except re-learn the lesson that you get the quality you pay for. My point: avoid California tackle reels.
