    Just got a Calcutta 50 now I need a rod to fit it. I am an uglystick guy never bought anything else. I'd like to put 4 or 6pound test on the reel and use it for as a light rod but uglystick only makes medium weight rods for casting even with their ultralight rods. Will that work? or do I need to find another rod?

    That will work just fine. Ive never seen a light action bait casting rod. Members correct me if you find one, Ive always wanted one myself.

    I have mine on a 5 1/2 foot cranking stick rod med. lite from bass pro. I've had it for about 8 years now. But then there are alot of nice rods out there, after all that is a nice reel.

    Brother Jason;
    Your choice will work just fine.
    Should you wish to try another type of rod why not give Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's a call and ask to speak with one of their "Product Specialists" about it and give them your requirements such as length, maximum price, ect, and I am sure they could call up {on their computers} several rods that will also work just fine with that "Itty Bitty" reel. :big_smile:
    Hope this helps.

    Take a look at rods known as "popping rods". Their used for red fish and specks. Their 7ftmedlight. As for as the action its a slow action. They easily handle bull reds, which are extremely powerful fish! As for manufacturers, look at All Star, Castaway, and American Rod-smith. All pretty good. Good luck to you!
