    This is a very real story. Not a joke!!!
    Deep water fish will have gas build up in their stomaches and can be leathal to them if not released before you release them. It is much like a human diving in deep water, they get the bends if they come up too fast.
    When you catch a fish in deep water, sometimes if you will notice, their stomaches are harder than they should be, this is why.

    JW gave you a great explanation right there of what burping is and why it is so important. I dont think it matters if you are fishing holes 15-20 feet. But, if you are fishing deep holes then you want to look into this for sure.

    Dear Brothers;
    All kidding aside, I have a question or two that I could use a bit of help with.
    1. Is it necessary to use a tube? This relates right to question #2 which is;
    I thought we had a post, I'm not sure if it was in the Archives, or in the Library, but I thought I had seen where you could also burp a catfish by "Rubbing It's Belly"?
    Guy's, I'm serious here with these two questions so please, no jokes on these two. THX in advance. :smile2:
    I'm still searching trying to find out where I saw the "belly rubbing" information so any help is appreciated.
    Fraternally,
    Coyote1

    You can use a tube of 1/2"CPVC with some kind of a ball on the end to keep from cutting them when you insert the tube into their throats. I don't think it would be possible to burp them by rubbing their bellies though.
