I was wondering if anyone has used one of the Briggs 5hp motors, and if so is it worth the 800 bucks. And since this is a air-cooled motor can it be used on a long transom boat?

I don't know the answer but suggest that you ask the question in the outboard motor help forum. There's a couple of professional outboard repairmen who can probably tell you.

Just remember they are not for salt or brackish waters. Not sure what kind of waters you boat in, but it made that motor worthless to me.
