Braid,Mono.and O.B.seals.

    How do the new braids stack up to mono.on lower unit seal damage?How do the newer motors handle line,compared to the old motors?peewee-williams

    ANY line around your prop has the potential to cause seal damage.There isn't any preference that I know of but if I HAD to choose I would rather mono as it is softer.As far as I know nothing has been done to Outboards in general to protect them from this hazard so any motor new or old can be damaged.Best thing is to check frequently and remove any line if found.:)

    I had hopes that someone had come up with something that worked by now.I have had mono.wraped on outboard and trolling motor shafts and in the seals.While on either the USS John Adams or Daniel Webster (don;t remember which) a 3 inch nylon line got out of a line locker and wraped up in our shaft.Bad news in a bad place,as we were on patrol out of Holy Loch Scotland.peewee-williams
