I finally manned up and bought me a catfish reel. I wanted a left hand retrieve which is what my bass reel is, but since I won't be running any crankbaits with this reel I figured it would work out. So anyway, what are the things I need to do to this reel to make it "bulletproof" like I hear guys talk about? I'd like a low gear ratio and possibly to add to the bearing count and/or add bearings. Is that all I need to do? Is there a website or article that explains all of this?

If you want to juice up your C4, I would recommend finding a surf fishing site with forums related to distance casting. You will learn all you need in regard to getting max performance from your reel. Good luck.

    The 6600 c4 has a high gear ratio of 6.3 to 1.

I would not have bought this real if you wanted a low gear ratio.

I have one and it works just fine the way it is.

I believe those have the Carbon matrix drag washers, and nice bearings,, should be only necessary to spool some line on it, and mount it on your favorite rod, and ,,,,
