This is my first baitcasting reel. I noticed this in the Q&A section of the bass pro shop website

I grew up on spincast reels, and we always just sprayed some WD 40 into the gears to maintain them each spring. I guess the Black Max will have instructions that tell me how to lube it. How often do you guys do this to maintain your reels?

I also have a Abu Garcia Cardinal spinning reel that I haven't lubricated. I should probably look into that.

edit: I just checked out this webiste (http://fishing.about.com/od/rodsandreels/a/spin_maintain.htm). He seems to suggest that spinning reels just need to be cleaned & greased if you start to have trouble with them. He also made some interesting comments about lubes.

Once I get some experience with this reel, I'll share my thoughts about it.
