No mud or clay. Ruins my equipment and I don't wish to track it in my car.
Not to mention the fish seem to be better quality.... hate to soak fish only to have a muddy taste remaining. Also mud seems to 'cloud' the bait. Then with the clay , the shoreline is also clay and makes for dangerous conditions as around here , clay banks are high and slippery. I'd rather catch the fish , not vice versa.

I have to go with a rock bottom. Water stays clearer and gives them cats some cover and the meat has a cleaner taste. when I'm bank fishing, rocks can be kinda tricky but Mud and clay can get extremely slick and be dangerous. I have a couple spots on the MDC were I just can't resist tracking down in the mud but at the 1st sign of rain here or up stream I'm out of there.

The rock, sand, gravel sound good. I have fished some clay and mud bottoms near here an caught some awful nice size channel catch's.

    Guess I like then all.

I encounter all the above conditions in the river system that I fish, but I much prefer rocks and sand bottoms. Since I'm mostly CPR taste doesn't enter the equation and there are times when mud flats are very productive. I guess I just go to where they are:smile2::smile2: Stay safe and stick a pig!!!

I would love to fish a sand bottom with no snags, but I doubt any big blues would be hanging around. I think the best bottom is rocks with a current.
