boat serial number

    i have a 1969 or older boat. i am looking for the sn can not find it in the right hand corner. the only number i found is a six digit number located under the cowlin on the floor rivited in the floor could this be the number but why just six numbers.the last two numbers are62 could this be the serial number.

    The motor and boat are numbered seperatly. Some of the boats didn't have the number until around 1974. that is when the regulations required them to put it on the transom on all boats made.

    And, it is called a "Hull Identification Number". It was required to be cast into the fiberglass of boats after a certain year, and I believe, a riveted plate before that year. There are supposed to be two of them on the hull, at different locations. This number identifies the manufacturer, the year, and I believe, a serial number. You may want to do a search on the web for Hull Identification Number. It is interesting reading.
