bluegill are great for spring. Cut the tail and middle off for bait, head and guts for chum. Refrigerate till ready too fish{seems to work better when put in the frige for a while} TRY IT

Well, you make several people now that's sang the praises of cut bluegills. I'm gonna have to give it a try. But I've read the heads are supposed to make really good bait too.

Welcome Chris; to the best catfish site around.

Bluegills are about the only bait I use. Good Advice you gave. You can also fillet them and cut them into strips abut 1" long x 1/4" wide..Works great on channels..

Bluegills are great bait for all catfish. My personal best Flathead came from a live bluegill and my personal best Bluecat came from a bluegill head and so did my personal best channelcat. Great baits!:cool2:

Can't agree more on gills in the frige over night, make sure all the air is pushed out and let it soak. [ i think the head is the best part, put your hook through the lip's. I've got my biggest cat's that way.]

I have never tried the overnight method. I have always cut them up just befor the go on the hook. I use all kinds of fish not just bluegill. What are you soaking them in?

There own juice. Scrape the slime off the board and put it in the bag[It's all that sent sucked into the meat that make's it last longer]
