I was sitting here thinking back to my biggest channels caught and I realized to my surprise that out of my top 5 all but one were caught during daylight hours. I know some of you guys will say its cause I fish more during the day but I dont. Now Im asking you guys to think back post your thoughts. Most of my big channels were caught on large live baits meant for stripers. Do ya guys think that it had to do with the catfish visually being able to track the bait better?

    My biggest was around 9:00am.

My biggest blue was around 9:00am.

My biggest flathead was around 10:00pm.

I think it depends on how and where you fish. Trophy fish can be taken day or night.

My biggest and 2nd biggest channel was caught at night, but all the rest of the nice ones I caught were in daylight.

I think catfish rely more on their other senses than their eyesight. Lots of cats are caught in water with very poor visabilty. I think cats like most fish will feed when baitfish are most active, sometimes day, sometimes night.

i would say if you fish for channels mostly at night than its a safe bet that you caught your biggest at night and vise versa mine was caught at night but thats when i target troghy size fish

IMHO, you are going to catch more large fish during the day, because more bait fish (especially bluegill and sunfish) are available in the daytime. For me though, river conditions dicate my ability to catch much more than the time of day. There is nothing better than a springtime flooded river!!!
