Now that fish kind of reminds me of the "creature from the lost lagoon" with all that stuff on it. Nice fish keep up the good work. We getting the rain now we sure needed huh. Luck

It was indeed, Mickey. The fight was interesting, he came up to the surface very quickly after being hooked and started flopping around. I've had numerous blues do that, but rarely channels. That combined with the weight of the fish had me wrongly thinking blue throughout the fight. Then, as odtimr mentioned, we've had A LOT of rain in SE Nebraska in the last week, so the final 4 feet to shore - through the submerged bushes - was a bit tricky.

I've been fishing this lake for the last month and been having a hard time with a standard slip-sinker rig getting wedged behind rocks or locked up in vegetation. That night, I switched to a drop-shot rig with the hook tied in with a palomar knot about 6" up from the weight and then a small, submerged float attached about 18" above the hook to keep the bait off the bottom. It seemed to get a lot cleaner, more solid takes. Hopefully that will continue.

    Good Fishin!

Where at in Nebraska, I was born in Sidney and remember my Dad used to bring some home that looked like that. I think he caught them on North Platte river somewhere.

I caught the channel on a 1/4 chunk of a 12" goldeye found in a puddle in the parking lot. :smile2:
The cat was caught near Omaha, NE in an oxbow lake. She took that cutbait like she hadn't had anything to eat in a month. But looking at her, I find that hard to believe.
