Ive caught some big blue cat's. and a lot of fisherman think im crazy when they see me using a 8/0 or 10/0 cicrle. and to top it off they see me put a half a skipjack on the hook and the they really think im nuts. but then after i catch a 40 or 50 pound blue cat there theroy's change lol i think its funny..how many catfish angler"s belive the bigger the bait the bigger the fish..

What part of TN are you from Jon? And where do you do most of your fishing? The TN river?

I agree with you 90% of the time John. But I have caught some small
cats on big baits and some big cats while bream fishing. I once had
a school of blues move in on a bream bed and had two to break me
off before I landed one a 23 lb. blue on a red worm and a #8 cricket
    hook.

I believe bigger is better .... sometimes. Sometimes you can't catch a fish on a large bait. I believe you have to let the body of water your fishing tell you what it wants.

Im startin to realize with recent blues I have caught that a big blue can eat any bait he wants to eat.The question is....does he want a meal...or a snack?

Very true bigger is better, I use 10/0 king khales and sometimes a pound and a half or bigger piece of bait.

I agree with the big bait big fish theory. I only bank fish so the size bait I can use is limited to a degree due to the need for casting distance. I use #8 octopus circle hooks because I also feel you need to have a lot of hook point exposure to catch the larger blues. Good luck.
