Monday morning my dad was carp fishing on High Rock, from the bank, with CORN, when he hung what he thought was a very big carp. Instead, it was a flathead that weighed 28.5#.

actually i've caught many flathead on corn...if you want to make it even better...take corn and nightcrawler and grind them up into a little ball....it's an excellent bait!

That's a big flathead for the Rock. I have heard stories of such, but never got one that big. Still looking for my first 20 pounder..........

My guess is that there is a grain mill somewhere around there and the Kitties are used to munching on the corn. Just a guess

    Congrats on the catches.

Chris, they are in there. We saw a boy weigh in a 46 # flattie last Sunday morning. Its not uncommon for 20 to 40 pounders to be weighed in. Not everyday but with some regularity.
Also saw a 37 pounder weighed in last fall that was caught on a crappie minnow and hook.
I am hoping to weigh one in like that my next trip out..lol

Barb, I didn't realize they got that Big in High Rock. I have always just fished for channel cats in the past, but started looking for flatheads this year. I picked up a 15.5 # one 3 weeks ago and howdy! that was fun on my channel cat tackle!!!!!!

Do you fish for the Flats at night or during the day at High Rock?

A couple friends of mine are fishing in a High Rock tourney tonight. Will post results tomorrow. I hope they have a lot of good luck and don't get stormed on!
