I was out fishing sand bass on lake Eagle Mountain lake when i casted out I hooked a big 14# blue. I was very suprised. I have never caught a cat on a lure. I guess since I was using a silver slab he thought it was a shad. Has any one else caught cats on a lure or is this just luck?

David Welcome to the BOC. Yes you can catch them on crank baits. We have used Manns 20+ and 30+ many times to catch cats.

Most people believe catfish are bottom feeders exclusivly dining on left overs. This a big misconception. Blue cats love LIVE bream. Yes LIVE. they Will ambush a smaller fish swimming by. If this cat thought your bait was alive, well you know what happened. I never personally caught one on artificial, however I have seen it happen.

It does happen pretty frequently. Bass fisherman catch lots of nice flatheads on crankbaits. Kind of amazes me that we havent changed catfish to a gamefish in most states when people are catching them on lures. Proves they arent just scavengers.

Welcome to the BOC!! I have caught regular white cats on lures. I have a few small spinners that have a rubber fish that looks like a shad on them and they will hit it when hungry.

Ive caught a few small cats by using a Fat A. It always seems to happen after i caught a bass on it bass. Maybe the cats still smell the scent of the bass? Possibly. Idk..
