i have 2 alpha reels that i have used different times over the years bought them both as a rod /reel combination both on a 7 ft medium action rod i dont think there is any certain rod that is the best all depends on what works for you and what your fishing for

A bit of quick research tells me that the Alpha rod in the combo was " Two-piece medium action tubular glass spinning rod. Comfortable EVA grips and sturdy double-bridged guides." in 6, 7 or 8 foot lengths.

I'm not sure how much you have to spend. But if it was me I think I'd step up a notch to an Ugly STick.

I'd look for a medium action in 7' or longer.
Up here those will run you about 30$ or so.

Also going from glass to graphite will give you a bit more distance in your casts and backbone in fighting a fish.

Bottom end, one tough rod for a reasonable price.
