What is the best knot to use with a circle hook?
I use the palomar knot, google it.
snelling the hook is the best thing you can do!!! then I use the palomer knot for pretty much everything else
I don't know the name of it, but here's what i've been using here lately. It's close to snelling, but not quite. Run a double piece of line through the eye, from the bend side and do several figure 8's around the hook with the loop. Pull it tight and then tie a surgeon's knot about an inch above the eye. If it's done this way, when a fish pulls on the line it causes the hook to turn into the fish. If it's not run through the eye from the right side, it will turn the other way.
I'll try to look through my old Texas Fish and Game magazines and find the correct name for it and maybe a picture.
Improved clinch knot on every hook I tie on.
I've used improved clinch knot for along time, and I like using the Palomar a lot these days, Still use them both..
I snell my circles and catfish rigs and use improved clinch and palomar for everything else.
this sums it up for me also...
Palomar knots for everything I tie.
i double my line and tie a standard clinch knot. try it u might like it!!!
Can't go wrong with a polamor knot, it's quick, strong, simple,& gets the job done.
It might depend on the circle hook.
If it has a turned eye you might try to snell it, but
if it has a straight eye the palomar is a good choice.
The palomar is my fav.
occasional polamor and improved clinch but mostly snell
I like to snell all of my circle hooks, and after you get the hang of it, it only takes a second to do. I really like the strength of the snelled hooks too.
Palomar for me, Have snelled also, but I can honestly say for me at least, I see no difference in hook ups between the two. and besides you can tie a Palomar with you eyes closed.
when using a snelled hook, how do you tie it to your swivel?
I Always Snell my hooks, Watch the video on how to and why you should snell them by Big G, You can find it in The Catfish video thread.. makes a whole lot of sense if someone else already said this my bad didnt read thro all the post. Gl everyone
The Palomar knot is my knot of choice for catfishing because it never fails.
I go with a palomar knot---like many others
I am a big fan of using palomar knots....never had an issue with a broken knot....ever unless it was nicked
